Veterinarians do more than treat sick animals; they must also act like detectives to identify the underlying causes of diseases, as animals cannot communicate their symptoms like humans. Dr. Luqman Abdul Samad explained that his work involves caring for a wide range of species, including birds, reptiles, livestock, wildlife, and exotic animals. Treating exotic animals is particularly challenging because it requires specialised knowledge of their habitat, nutrition, and anaesthesia needs. In addition to technical challenges, veterinarians often face issues related to treatment costs, communication with pet owners, and workforce shortages. According to him, Malaysia needs more qualified veterinarians to meet the growing demands of animal healthcare, the livestock industry, and food safety.
